Welcome To Terrell County

Peanut Capital of the world!
Terrell County
was created on February 16, 1856 as 329 square miles were taken from Lee and Randolph counties. Randolph was created from Lee which was an original county created upon Creek Indian cession.
Terrell County was named for Dr. William Terrell (1778-1885) of Sparta. He was a famous state senator and later United States congressman. He was responsible for establishing the chair of agriculture at the University of Georgia.
The county seat of Terrell County is Dawson which is a famous Spanish peanut market.
Incorporated on December 22, 1857, it was named for William C. Dawson (1798-1857). He was a Georgia-born lawyer and soldier, who was elected to the United States Senate for one term beginning in 1849.
Terrell County is in the southwestern part of the state and is bounded on the north by Webster and Sumter counties, on the east by Lee, on the south by Dougherty and Calhoun and on the west by Randolph. Parrott, Bronwood and Sasser are other towns in Terrell County.
