How we handle Student Truancy or Absenteeism
If your child is truant, or has missed an excessive number of days out of school, a complaint will be turned in to the Juvenile Justice Department.
This action may require your child to go to court and/or you as a parent to face charges.
The law state, "Every parent, or other person residing within the state of Georgia having control or charge of any child or children between the ages of six and sixteen
years old shall enroll and send such child or children to a public, private, or home school program. Any parent, guardian, or other person residing withing the state who has charge
of a child or children and who shall violate these provisions above shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be subject to a fine not to exceed $100.00 or imprisonment
not to exceed 30 days, or both, at the discretion of the superior, city, or other court having jurisdiction.
Each day's absence from school in violation of this shall constitute a separate offense".
We wish to assist you in your efforts to keep your child in school on a daily basis. If we can be of assistance, please contact the school social worker,
Russia Sherrod, or principal Bell (high school) at 229-995-2544 or associate principal Burke at 229-995-2828.
You may contact the principal at 995-2544 if you have questions or circumstances that may require additional consideration.
