Davidson-Bowman-Gunning

Located at 270 Stonewall Street, this house is a classic Greek Rivival built about 1905, and is sometimes called Henderson Hall.
Built for Mrs. W.A. Davidson, the house was sold in 1911 to Dr. Sam Bowman, local dentist and businessman. Much memorabilia from the Bowman years was stored in a garden house on the grounds, the most interesting being Dr. Bowman's manually driven tooth drill and nitrous oxide (laughing gas) machine complete with bellows for administering the gas.
This home is a classic example of its style. It is dominated by four massive tapered and fluted columsn, with Scamozzi capitals. The columns are reproduced seventeen times, in various sizes. The balustrading is matched on the roof line, the verandah, and the upper gallery.
